Instructor Statement:  “Sanmathi is a very dedicated student who always puts her best effort forward when given a project. This is very evident when viewing her most recent work of art (Tiger, Image Enlargement Using a Grid).  The details and texture that she utilized in this drawing certainly paid off.  She is a pleasure to have in class and always brings a positive attitude to the studio. While working on this project Sanmathi encountered many challenges and did an amazing job adjusting her image to achieve more realism. I most certainly look forward to her future art works.”

Artist Statement:  “My name is Audrey Newbrey. I like art because you get to use your imagination and make what you want for anyone. I like my project because I used the colors red, green, yellow, brown and black, and the dots and the textures.”  ~Audrey

Instructor Statement:
“Audrey is so fun to have in class. She arrives every day excited about art and the opportunity to create. Her good attitude is contagious and inspiring to everyone around her. She approaches each project with curiosity, and without fail her projects show her eagerness to explore and learn new things. It’s very apparent that art is a huge part of Audrey’s life.”  ~Ms. Beth, Instructor

Class:  Exploring Art

Artist’s statement:  “About Georgia O’Keeffe,” She paints dream like pictures. She also does landscapes. I liked this project because I blended the colors together like pink and purple. I liked being able to draw the mountains. I love art because of painting colors, and clay! I also like my teacher Ms. Susan because she is nice and likes art too!”

From her instructor:  The first thing I noticed about Kaylee is her beautiful smile. She is a wonderful student to have in class; she is always enthused and is always very helpful and respectful to me as her teacher and to her fellow classmates. Kaylee is an extremely gifted artist, her work always shows her thoughtful approach to the subject and grasp of the technique and materials at hand. I always look forward to seeing her on Saturdays, she brightens my day.

Class:  Manga

Artist’s statement:  “For this, I wanted to see how many lines I could scratch onto one piece of paper before losing my sanity. I didn’t quite reach that point, thankfully,but I came close. I wanted to also figure out if I trusted myself to ink lines without making the picture spiral into a mess that looked like it was the result of a 9.1 on the richter scale. It was definitely an endeavor, keeping track of so many lines – by the end, when I closed my eyes I saw fractals. But it helped me figure out how inking works – and patience – and I am happy I went through with this. Just… never again (at least not for awhile).”

“Madi has such a unique style already, that it almost hurts to direct her in another direction! Her linework and how it flows is always something to look at, whether it comes out precise or more abstract. So much of her work is made up of ‘happy accidents,’ things she just does naturally that give her pieces a distinct look. It’s hard to get a finished piece out of Madi as she just sketches and sketches and sketches, putting one idea out after another. I look forward every week to seeing what new concept comes out on to paper from her!”  ~Amanda, Instructor

Class:  Journey with the Masters, an on-site afterschool enrichment program at Cascade View Elementary

Artist’s statement:  The name of the artist we learned about is Chuck Baird. He is deaf. What I really liked about this art project is that I got to paint a lot. The art meant sunset or sunrise in sign language.

“This session has been my first opportunity to work with Sarah. She is a pure joy to have in the classroom. She is always eager to learn something new and is a very gifted artist. I look forward to seeing what she will do with future projects.”  ~Ms. Lauren, Instructor

Artist’s statement: ”I love to learn about artists and try out different mediums in my art class. Trying various types of art makes me happy.” ~Isheta

“Having Isheta in my Journey with the Masters class at Snoqualmie Elementary has been fantastic. She creates every piece with diligence, passion, creativity and ALWAYS a positive attitude. I chose Isheta’s Andy Goldsworthy piece because, not only is the piece she produced beautiful but, the process she took to get there was inspiring. Andy Goldsworthy is an artist who’s site-specific, environmental work is very temporary because it is made using natural materials such as sticks, flowers, stones, twigs, icicles, leaves, mud and snow. These pieces are outside and exposed to the elements so the photographs of them are the only living proof they ever existed. Like Andy Goldworthy, Isheta had the experience of producing a temporary piece. She took her work seriously and meticulously set each piece rearranging multiple times to find what worked best. It was fun to see her so involved with this piece and try so hard to find just the right shaped twigs and stones to create the perfect balance in her work.”  ~Ms. Kristine, instructor

Artist’s statement: “I have loved art all my life. I feel really good when I can grab a pencil and paper and sit in a quiet, comfortable spot to draw. I especially love drawing still life, cats and anime. Through my art classes at Museo Art Academy, I have learned a lot about drawing techniques, styles and formats. I look forward to learning so much more about art.” ~Caitlin

“Caitlin has shown great dedication and talent while working on her still life drawing in class, as she always does while in studio. I am excited to see her growth and willingness to explore new ideas. As an Instructor, I cant ask for more from a student than an open mind and listening ear, both of which I am sure will continue to aid her along a successful journey with the arts. Food, music and creative fun – ingredients for a fabulous Friday night out just for kids!  Each month highlights a particular artist or school of art.  We’ll kick off the evening with pizza while the instructor shares some interesting facts about the artist.  Then, we unleash our independent creativity!  Kids can choose to draw inspiration from the featured artist or explore the materials on their own.  The “open studio” style workstations are dedicated to clay, painting and drawing.  Experience each, or spend the entire evening at just one – it’s up to you!

Class:  Discovering Art

Artist’s statement: “One day a boy named Jake wanted to go outside and stuck his head under the ground by the summer flowers. The End.
I like mixing colors and it [class] is fun! I like Ms. Beth, she’s a good teacher for me and she lets me try new things.”

“Kaili is truly wonderful to have in class. She always shows up smiling and ready to create!  While being open to learning new techniques, like the ones we used in this landscape, she is also constantly giving her projects her own unique flair. Her creativity is fresh and exciting to see in action. She’s also a great listener and follows directions promptly. She has told me many times how much she loves creating art and I can tell it’s a real passion for her.” ~Ms. Beth, instructor
